It’s the 20th anniversary of Brokeback Mountain, and Jake Gyllenhaal is once again stunning on the red carpet. This time, he attended the 2025 Primetime Emmys where he’s nominated for his lead performance in limited series Presumed Innocent. (Much like American Horror Story and Monster(s) before it, Presumed Innocent is becoming an anthology after getting nominated in the limited series category on its first go. Season two will be led by Matthew Rhys.)

He gave Adolescence’s Owen Cooper a little duck.
A day before the big show, Jake Gyllenhaal surprised his “number one” fan Owen Cooper. The whole thing was masterminded by Netflix, who documented Gyllenhaal gifting Cooper a “lucky duck.” Apparently someone gave him a similar duck before attending the 2005 Oscars. “I made this movie and I got nominated for an Academy Award,” he said while presenting the duck, and referring to Brokeback Mountain as “this movie” is crazy work. “A friend of mine sent me this before, something just like this.” Gyllenhaal, famously, did not win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005. Here’s hoping Cooper’s duck is luckier.

He showed up!
What? You thought a big shot movie star would be presumed absent at the Emmys? Gyllenhaal walked the red carpet with longtime girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, is a safe distance away at the first Chiefs home game of the season.
He himself ducked.
Gyllenhaal and Cate Blanchett ducked out of the photographers’ way as they got pics of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco. “Can you bow down further?” Steve Martin jokingly instructed. It’s gotta be a mixed bag of feelings for Taylor Swift to see her ex duck out of photos with her bestie.

His charm for Owen Cooper worked.
Gyllenhaal may have lost to Adolescence’s Stephen Graham in his cateogory, but his lucky duck got it done. Owen Cooper won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, making him the youngest male actor to win an Emmy.
