We’ll Have The Summer I Turned Pretty Forever & Always

When Taylor Swift announced that she bought back her masters, it seemingly confirmed one other thing: that The Summer I Turned Pretty isn’t going to be debuting any more Taylor’s Versions. As Belly returns for a final summer at Cousins Beach, she’ll finally decide which brother she wants to be with forever. Cute! But also heartbreaking if she doesn’t pick the brother you’ve been rooting for the past two seasons. If you’re a bookworm and already have an educated guess for who she ends up with, fear not! Creator Jenny Han has hinted that things may not always stay the same, much like Belly’s relationships with Jeremiah and Conrad.

What can we expect in season three?

Fans of the books know that, if the show stays true to the books’ plots, we’re in for a season three full of pain, agony, and major life events. So far, the first two seasons have stayed very accurate to the plot of the first two books, The Summer I Turned Pretty and It’s Not Summer Without You. Ahead of the final season in July, what we know so far is that the show will have eleven episodes, and Han warns of some “changes” from the source material. She told EW: “There are surprises. And there are things that aren’t exactly like the books.”

What Swiftie songs made it into the trailer?

Belly’s passion for Jeremiah is burning “Red,” but is her heart the color of “Daylight” with Conrad? In the official trailer for the final season, we fast forward to the end of Belly’s junior year of college and her engagement with Jeremiah, much to the surprise of both of their families. “First loves are important,” Belly proclaims as Conrad remembers his romance with her. “But they’re not as important as lasts.” Their parents object, seemingly upset that they’re both too young to decide to get married. Meanwhile, Conrad’s moving on with his life in California… or has he?

Will Taylor be soundtracking it?

As long as the show has been around, Taylor has been as defining a feature as yearning and youthful indiscretions have. And no, not Taylor, Belly’s best friend, but Dr. Taylor Alison Swift. Han has talked about how she listens to Swift while writing, so it’s no surprise that she’s present in the show’s playlist. But, can we infer anything from how they’re used? Thus far Swift’s songs largely defined the Conrad (played by Christopher Briney) and Belly (played by Lola Tung) relationship exclusively.

Season one had “This Love (Taylor’s Version),” “Cruel Summer,” “Lover,” “False God,” and the life-altering moment where “The Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version)” became Conrad and Belly’s anthem, sending fans to scream into their pillows and throw things at their televisions. In the episodes themselves for season two, there has been “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” (again), “Last Kiss (Taylor’s Version)” (which was just psychotic), “Hey Stephen (Taylor’s Version),” “Invisible String,” and “Sweet Nothing.” Episode six of season two also had “Delicate (Taylor’s Version),” setting the stage for the rest of Belly’s emotional journey. Where Conrad is a brooding, emotional first love, largely defined by the Fearless, Speak Now, and Folklore eras, Jeremiah is the all-American boy gone vengeful represented by Reputation. Episode eight concluded with more emotional Swift songs like “Bigger than the whole sky” and “Exile.”

Who’s new to Cousins Beach?

Earlier this month, Variety reported that Fatal Attraction 2023’s Isabella Briggs and The Cabin in the Woods’s Kristen Connolly are joining as series regulars for the final season. Sofia Bryant, Lily Donoghue, Zoé de Grand’Maison, Emma Ishta, and Tanner Zagarino also join them as recurring cast members in undisclosed roles.

When’s the release date?

The final summer romance comes on July 16 to Prime Video with weekly episode drops … Ready for it?
