In a resurfaced TIDAL interview, Mitski was asked, “What’s a pop song you’ve been kind of deconstructing lately?” Mitski revealed that it was none other than the iconic song “Call Me Baby” by EXO.

There’s a K-Pop song called ‘Call Me Baby’ by this band… I don’t know what you would call a K-Pop… group… by this group called EXO.

Mitski explained that she was deconstructing EXO’s “Call Me Baby.” She said that she found its chord progressions fascinating.

And the chord progressions in that are fascinating.

In another interview with i-D Magazine, Mitski said that she was listening to EXO’s “Call Me Baby” on repeat at the time. She heard a Motown influence in it from a producer who worked with Michael Jackson.
