Tumbbad, one of the most loved Hindi horror movies, is all set to return to theatres this week. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and starring Sohum Shah in the lead role, the film was first released on October 12, 2018. While it received positive reviews from critics, it didn’t do as well as expected at the box office. However, over time, more people began to appreciate the film after it was released on OTT platforms, making it a fan favourite. On Monday, a special screening of Tumbbad was held in Mumbai, where Sohum Shah surprised the audience after the movie ended. The actor expressed his happiness over the movie’s re-release and was ecstatic about the positive reception in the theater. He said he was grateful for all the love Tumbbad continues to receive and how it is the audience that kept the movie alive. A lot of people believe it’s a movie that should’ve been sent for the Oscars. Find out what Shah has to say about it. Sohum Shah said, “Main ek interview se aa raha hoon aur unhone mujhse pucha ke yeh film Oscar nahi gayi, toh aapko dukh hua kya. Maine kaha mujhe bilkul dukh nahi hua kyunki Oscar toh theek hai yaar. Hum Hindustani log, desi log hai aur humne apne logon ke liye film banayi hai. Aur jab aapse itna saara pyaar milta hai, jab main kuch bhi daalta hoon na (social media pe) toh mujhe koi bhi comment mein nahi kehta ke acche lag rahe ho, accha chashma hai, acchi ghadi hai. Mujhe yahi comment aate hai ki Tumbbad 2 kab bann rahi hai aur Tumbbad re-release kar do na. Toh yeh aap logon ka pyaar hai ke Tumbbad 6 saal baad fir cinema mein aa rahi hai. Toh thanks a lot of for this.” (It’s because of people like you and your love that this film is still alive. I was coming from an interview, and they asked me, ‘Were you sad that your film didn’t make it to the Oscars?’ I said, ‘I wasn’t sad at all because Oscars are fine and all. We are Hindustani people, desi people, and we made this film for our own people. And when I receive so much love from you (it’s amazing). Whenever I post anything (on social media), no one comments things like, “You’re looking good,” “Nice glasses,” or “Nice watch.” Instead, I always get comments asking, “When will you make Tumbbad 2” or “Please re-release Tumbbad.”‘ So, it’s your love that has brought Tumbbad back to cinemas after six years. So, thanks a lot for this.”)
