Looks as though everyone has taken this holiday break seriously. Not even the streamers could provide a lot of new entertainment for us fools. Other than Jurassic World: Rebirth, we just might have to experience the outdoors this Fourth of July. But for those looking to beat the heat, we found some options.

Featured Presentations

Jurassic World: Rebirth

Universal will never let the Jurassic franchise die. At least Rebirth is more entertaining than the abysmal Dominion. Scarlett Johansson stars as an operative, Zora Bennett, who is hired by a pharmaceutical company to take Jonathan Bailey’s paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis, to a former InGen facility to get some dino blood.

In theaters now

The Old Guard 2

In the sequel to director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s 2020 Netflix superhero hit, Charlize Theron returns as Andy, a formerly all-powerful immortal dealing with the fallout of the first film. Uma Thurman joins the cast as Discord, another immortal, not the app.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion

Vulture critic Kathryn VanArendonk described The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’s second season as “so chockablock with dramatic turns that it would be entirely reasonable for a sirens-blazing cop car to pull up at least once every episode. (Instead, that happens only once.)” Now, the women (sans Demi) have reunited to rehash the drama with a man surprisingly equipped to host the special: former Bachelor star Nick Viall. —Tolly Wright

What’s Going On With The Sandman?

“Beginning in 2024, multiple women accused the writer Neil Gaiman of nonconsensual sexual activity. In a New York cover story, the women described a pattern of sexual assault, coercion, and nonconsensual BDSM. In the wake of these allegations, many of Gaiman’s TV and movie projects were put on hold. But not Netflix’s The Sandman.”

The Wimbledon Championships

Maybe one of the matches will be even more thrilling than our favorite tennis-movie scenes. The full tournament, which goes through July 13, is streaming on ESPN+. —T.W.

Dan Da Dan, season two

A new anime season is upon us! This weekend alone sees the return of titles like My Dress-Up Darling; Rent-a-Girlfriend; and Reborn As a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon (not nearly the longest anime title we’ve seen) for new seasons. But the one we definitely won’t miss is Dan Da Dan, the supernatural fantasy about two teens who fight demons and aliens alike; we named it among the strongest anime of 2024. —Eric Vilas-Boas

Sinners

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan as twins, Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown in Mississippi to open up a juke joint. The pair enlist their cousin Sammie (Miles Caton) and a group of locals for help with the grand opening. But the night quickly devolves when they’re visited by a trio of vampires led by Jack O’Connell. Sinners is highly rewatchable, so you can invite it into your house as many times as you’d like with a Max subscription.

Streaming on Max starting Friday

➽ Joining Sinners on streaming (and on Vulture’s “Best Movies of the Year” list) are Thunderbolts*, available on VOD, and On Becoming a Guinea Fowl on Max.
