HBO saw Rachel Sennott say, “C’mon, it’s L.A.” in 2019 and said, “Give me six seasons and a movie.” Like Sex and the City and Girls before it, Sennott’s upcoming series will be about a young woman finding herself in a big city. Unlike those comparison points, the big city in question will not be New York — it will be Los Angeles. In fact, the series is titled I Love LA. Will we all love I Love LA? Below, the cast, release date, and everything you need to know about the hopefully generational comedy.
What is I Love LA about?
An “ambitious friendgroup” works through “life and love in LA,” per a press release. Vague, but fits with both Girls and SATC. While Sennott’s expertise is in playing messy characters like Hannah and Carrie before her, she’s also 28 — older than Hannah and younger than Carrie. Clock the differences.
Who else is in the cast?
Sennott stars as Maia. She’ll be joined by comedian and Rotting in the Sun star Jordan Firstman as Charlie, Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games as Dylan, Odessa A’zion (who’ll be in Marty Supreme this December) as Tallulah, and Forest Whitaker’s daughter True Whitaker as Alani. Notable confirmed guest stars include Gossip Girl songstress Leighton Meester, The Queen’s Gambit Emmy nominee Moses Ingram, and Daniel Radcliffe’s Tethered, the one and only Elijah Wood. They’ll be alongside other guests like former SNL cast member Lauren Holt, influencer Quenlin Blackwell, Josh Brener of Silicon Valley, The Righteous Gemstones fave Tim Baltz, gay hottie Froy Gutierrez, and straight hottie Colin Woodell.
When is the release date?
I Love LA premieres on Sunday, November 2, at 10:30 p.m on HBO and HBO Max. Episodes air weekly from there. C’mon, it’s I Love LA.
