Now would be the perfect time to bust out the Tarzan soundtrack and do some reflecting. A spokesperson for Phil Collins has confirmed that the rocker isn’t in hospice care, but instead in the hospital recovering from knee surgery. The clarification came a week after tabloids began to falsely report on the status of Collins’s health, which has been declining since Genesis’s final concert in early 2022. Collins has generally eschewed public life since then — he suffers from dislocated vertebrae and nerve damage, which require the use of a cane and have prevented him from playing the drums for several years — but he conducted a short interview in February’s Mojo magazine to offer an update. “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” he explained. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick.” Collins last spoke about his ailments in late 2022, stressing that he’d “rather relax and not do anything” than attempt to get behind the kit to make music. “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit,” he added. “I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.”
