For the poor sods who weren’t able to gain entry to those secret Bowery Ballroom shows earlier this year — yours truly sprinted from her apartment and got a golden ticket for the first night — Paul McCartney is now multiplying his ticket capacity by about 10,000. The man known as Mac Macca in Ringo Starr’s phone has announced the Got Back Tour, which will have him performing 19 shows throughout America and Canada later this year. (The full dates are here, which east-coasters will find disappointing.) McCartney last toured this fine continent three years ago, when the Get Back documentary was still fresh in everyone’s minds and there was no such term as “the Beatles cinematic universe” floating around the public consciousness. Last December, the two surviving Beatles reunited at McCartney’s concert in London, with Starr taking over drum duties for two songs. “With John and George not here, I think we realize nothing lasts forever,” McCartney recently said of their relationship. “So we grasp onto what we have now because we realize that it’s very special. It’s something hardly anyone else has. In fact, in our case, it’s something no one else has. There’s only me and Ringo, and we’re the only people who can share those memories.” We’ll raise a glass to peace and love for that.
