JYPE Boycott Genocide: Prop In New DAY6 Video Sparks Outrage

Netizens are calling on JYP Entertainment to “boycott genocide.”

Recently, Korean pop-rock band DAY6 announced its comeback as all members have been discharged from their mandatory military service. The group will release their eighth mini-album entitled Fourever.

While MyDays (DAY6 fandom) were initially excited about their long-anticipated comeback, feelings changed upon viewing their trailer film.

yay, but still, we do NOT want DAY6 to associate or promote companies that are financing a genocide in Palestine or even more affiliating with the occupiers in ANY kind, i.e. properties used in the trailer film

Please take note of our concerns.@jypnation#JYPE_BOYCOTT_GENOCIDE

Near the end of the video, the members posed, and behind them was a bookshelf. On the shelf was what appeared to be a Tel Aviv magazine or book.

According to the Palestinians, Tel Aviv is an occupied territory of Palestine, and its residents are “settlers.” According to Al Jazeera, “Settlers are Israeli citizens who live on private Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.”

Tel Aviv-Yafo (Hebrew: תֵּל אָבִיב-יָפוֹ, romanized: Tēl ʾĀvīv-Yāfō, IPA: [tel aˈviv jaˈfo]; Arabic: تَلّ أَبِيب – يَافَا, romanized: Tall ʾAbīb-Yāfā), usually referred to as just Tel Aviv, is the most populous city in the Gush Dan metropolitan area of Israel. Located on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline and with a population of 467,875, it is the economic and technological center of the country. If East Jerusalem is considered part of Israel, Tel Aviv is the country’s second-most-populous city, after Jerusalem; if not, Tel Aviv is the most populous city, ahead of West Jerusalem.
Tel Aviv is governed by the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, headed by Mayor Ron Huldai, and is home to most of Israel’s foreign embassies. It is a beta+ world city and is ranked 57th in the 2022 Global Financial Centres Index. Tel Aviv has the third- or fourth-largest economy and the largest economy per capita in the Middle East.

The comment section on Instagram was filled with netizens calling out JYP Entertainment’s usage of the Tel Aviv magazine as a prop in the video. Many felt it was used as Zionist propaganda.

Fans have also taken to X (formerly Twitter) to spread awareness. MyDays are trending “#JYP_BOYCOTT_GENOCIDE,” spreading information regarding the social issue. Many are commenting on DAY6’s promotional posts and tagging JYP Entertainment, calling for the removal of the Tel Aviv magazine.

The world has recently become increasingly aware of the social issues in that region. Since October, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reportedly surpassed 30,000. The surviving Palestinians in Gaza are struggling to survive as over 71,920 are injured, starving, displaced, and lost homes, family, and friends.

More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 70,000 wounded in the Gaza Strip since the Israel’s war on Hamas began nearly five months ago, health officials in the territory said.

On Thursday, Palestinian witnesses say Israeli troops opened fire on a crowd of people scrambling for aid in Gaza City. More than 100 people were killed and at least 700 wounded, according to Palestinian witnesses and Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The DAY6 video is not the only recent video from JYP Entertainment that has fans calling for a boycott. Recently, labelmates Park Jin Young (also known as J.Y. Park or JYP), Stray Kids, ITZY, and NMIXX teamed up for the new song “Like Magic,” which is a promotional single for the 2024 Coca-Cola‘s Korean campaign.

The soda brand is currently boycotted worldwide as “it profits from the Israeli occupation of Palestine,” as it is known to operate in Atarot, an illegal Israeli settlement. Read more below.
