Javier Bardem is a first-time double nominee at the 2025 Emmys, up for both acting and producing awards for his work on Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Rather than reflect back on his time on the Ryan Murphy show, he used his brief red-carpet interview on E! Live to talk about something bigger. “For me, what is important today is to denounce the genocide and talk about IAGS, which is the International Association of Genocide Scholars, who at the end of August declared what is going on is a genocide,” he explained to Zuri Hall before concluding with “Free Palestine.” Bardem wore a keffiyeh with the colors of the Palestinian flag over his suit, and he went on to shout out the work of Film Workers for Palestine. “We don’t target individuals by their identity,” he explained, adding that he avoids companies that are “complicit and whitewashing or justifying” the ongoing atrocities in Gaza. He also told Variety that he would not work with a film or television company that supports the genocide “in this industry or any other industry.”

Bardem has used his media platform to discuss the ongoing violence in Gaza several times, most notably over the summer during his promotional tour for F1. He discussed his support for Palestine on The View and on the red carpet for F1, explaining that this cause matters to him. “Of course this matters,” he said, gesturing to the F1 promotional material, “and we are celebrating movies, but we cannot forget what is happening in the real world.” At the end of his conversation with Hall on the Emmys red carpet, he thanked the host for letting him speak without interruption, shaking her hand and bowing his head in gratitude.
