For everyone who felt Steven Universe was too earthbound, we’ve got great news. Today at Annecy Animation Festival, Rebecca Sugar announced a spinoff focusing on Lars and his interstellar fusion pals is currently in development. Unlike previous Steven Universe universe jawns, which were on Cartoon Network and/or Max, Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars will be coming to Amazon Prime Video. “I miss my world and my characters,” Sugar said. “I can’t wait to share [the sequel] with you and can’t thank you enough for all your support.” They will EP the show alongside Steven Universe vet Ian Jones-Quartey.
Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars will center around Lars Barriga, who really glowed up after getting stranded in space. Lars was originally a surly teen of Beach City, but he was eventually abducted to the Gem Homeworld. He died, got better, turned pink, and got some gem powers of his own. Lars has been traveling the galaxy with outlaw fusions the Off Colors ever since. The show promises to be full of smuggling, piracy, derring do, and other space shenanigans. Will this show make us sob like OG Steven Universe, though?
