Of all the Stranger Things kids, it was Finn Wolfhard who correctly guessed what a Stranger Things spinoff would look like, according to the Duffer brothers. “Nobody — not Netflix, not any of the producers, not any of the directors, not any of the actors — nobody else has figured out what the spinoff is. Finn figured out, which is pretty remarkable,” Ross Duffer shared with Variety in an August 5 profile of the actor. So what’s it about? “Sort of an anthology and different tones but similar universe or same universe. I think set in different places and all tied together through this mythology of the Upside Down. Don’t even talk about Hawkins. Don’t have any mention of our characters,” Wolfhard speculated at the time. “I think the coolest way, the way that I would do it, there has to be labs everywhere. If there was one in Hawkins, there’s one in Russia. Where else could they be?”
Are you following that? For a point of comparison, Wolfhard said the idea is “like David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.” Maybe he’s talking about The Return, in which both South Dakota and Vegas are dealing with the wrath of Killer Bob and different settings connect back to the central mystery. That spinoff, however, still included characters from the original series. Maybe the other labs in the spinoff have heard of Eleven — or, at the very least, Dungeons and Dragons.
