Get ready, newsboys, newsgirls, and newsthems, The Paper is being delivered. New comedy series The Paper, set in the same universe as The Office, will premiere in September, Peacock confirmed at the NBC upfronts on May 12. The new mockumentary series from The Office (U.S.) creator Greg Daniels and Nathan for You alum Michael Koman will star Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus), and one sole Office alum, Oscar Nuñez, who will return as Oscar. The connection goes beyond Oscar, however, as the series is “from” the same documentary crew as The Office, who are now documenting the attempts to revive a Toledo newspaper called The Truth Teller.
The first-look image sees Gleeson on top of a table, with Nuñez, playing Oscar for the first time in 12 years, looking on. Given his new position working at The Truth Teller, it seems altogether likely that Oscar did not win the state Senate position he was running for at the end of The Office. Of any other characters from the original show, Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) have a window to return, as they made Oscar their child’s godfather in season nine. The series will air exclusively on Peacock. Just make sure not to accidentally watch The Paper (a 1994 movie about a tabloid) or The Paper (a 2008 MTV reality show about a student newspaper) instead.
