Taylor Swift Says She’s Too ‘Locked In’ to Do the Super Bowl Halftime Show

It’s almost too obvious that Taylor Swift should be doing the Super Bowl halftime show in 2026. She’s the biggest pop star in the world, and it’s the biggest stage — and, of course, her fiancé is Travis Kelce, tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs. Except, actually, that Kelce connection is exactly why Swift won’t be doing the Super Bowl. She explained her reasoning on The Tonight Show on October 6, after Jimmy Fallon asked her if she turned down the Super Bowl because she couldn’t own the rights to the video. “Jay-Z has always been really good to me,” Swift said in her denial. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, which helps select performers for the halftime show, often asks her team what Swift is thinking about the Super Bowl. “We’re always able to tell him the truth,” Swift explained. “Which is: I am in love with a guy who does that sport. That is violent chess, that is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field.”

“Can you imagine if he’s out there, every single week, putting his life on the line doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be?’” she continued. Still, Swift made sure to clarify that this decision doesn’t come from her boo. “This is nothing to do with Travis,” she says. “He would love for me to do it. I’m just too locked in.” Does this mean that once Kelce retires, she’ll be willing to play the game? Hopefully, Swifties are too young to have heard of Tonya Harding.
