Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd is starring as the dom to Dudley Dursley’s sub in the upcoming sexy gay romance Pillion, and he knows how to rile up this film’s target audience. “I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women,” he told Variety while promoting the film at Zurich International Film Festival. “To me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn’t seen portrayed this way — with so much authenticity.” (SkarsgĂ„rd is currently in a relationship with actress and director Tuva Novotny, with whom he has the aforementioned kid.)

Pillion, which won Best Screenplay at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard category, follows Colin, played by Harry Potter’s Harry Melling, as he falls in love with Ray (SkarsgĂ„rd). Ray is the leader of a biker gang and demands utter subservience. “How did you get a man like that?” someone asks Colin in the trailer. “I have an aptitude for devotion,” he replies. SkarsgĂ„rd made the film partially as a corrective on the historical depiction of the gay leather scene. “My experience of watching this onscreen was through Cruising, where it’s this dark underbelly of New York City and it’s dangerous, murderous, and scary,” he said. “Leather gays are scary. I’m no Ray, but I have a little bit of experience from that world, and I know that’s not the truthful depiction.” Yes, SkarsgĂ„rd! Please, tell us more, and this movie will be profitable in no time.
