Buried in a Daily Mail article about the ever-shifting schedule of Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice is a bit of happy news disguised as corporate inconvenience: Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden are parents! Thankfully the fifth season of Slow Horses is locked and loaded for a late September release, but Pride and Prejudice will have to make due without its leading man for a minute. Producers are reportedly employing “Lowden look-alikes” in dearth of Darcy in order to wrap up shooting on a timely schedule. Ronan has kept a relatively low profile this year and never formally announced her pregnancy so much as she has popped up at events and in paparazzi photos very evidently with child. She was absent from the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 where her new film Bad Apples premiered to mostly good reviews.
She and Lowden met on the set of Mary Queen of Scots in 2018, and the two tied the knot in 2024. Here’s hoping Lowden and Ronan enjoy their well-earned parental leave, and here’s hoping some of those “Lowden look-alikes” jumping into his place are single. If Ronan is half as good at parenting as she is at acting, she’ll stand head and shoulders above the rest.
