Lady Gaga was once again stained with blood at the MTV Video Music Awards. Broadcasting in live from her Mayhem Ball, Gaga sang “The Dead Dance” for the first time live. The song is from the Wednesday season 2 soundtrack, but fits in nicely with all the zombie boys and girls in her current album.
Gaga won Artist of the Year at the start of the 2025 VMAs, saying in her acceptance speech that she’d love to stay and watch the performances (including Sabrina Carpenter’s trans rights protest and medleys by Ricky Martin, Busta Rhymes, and Mariah Carey), but she had to skedaddle to the Ball. Her window into the Mayhem Tour included Big Gaga doing “Abracadabra” and a smaller, doll-like Gaga performing “The Dead Dance.” Lady Gaga leads the nominations for the 2025 VMAs, with 12 nominations. Weirdly, she wasn’t nominated in the “Dance or Die” category? Seems like she’d be a shoo-in.
