Senegalese-Italian influencer Khaby Lame, the most followed person on TikTok, was detained by ICE on June 6 at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. A spokesperson for ICE told Newsweek on June 9 that Lame, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, had “overstayed the terms of his visa” and was granted “voluntary departure.” He was given a temporary visa in the US on April 30 to attend the Met Gala in early May. Lame recently posted an Instagram story from Brazil, seemingly confirming he’s no longer in the US. However, he has not directly commented on the situation.

The 25 year old influencer was born in Senegal but moved to Italy as a child, earning Italian citizenship in 2022. He grew a following on TikTok in 2020, creating videos wordlessly reacting to overly complicated life hacks and his simple videos allowed him to reach an international audience, since his humor wasn’t in a specific language.
