YouTube will add a new notch to its belt this fall: NFL livestreamer. The most popular streaming service of them all announced today that on Friday, September 5, it will exclusively air a regular-season game live from Brazil to its worldwide audience, for free and for the first time ever. The match is the week-one Chargers game and will be held in São Paulo’s Corinthians Arena. Congrats to YouTube, the Chargers, and their week-one opponents (TBD), but a big shout-out to the millions of Brazilians who love futebol americano. Parabéns meus conterrâneos! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

“We are excited to expand our relationship with YouTube to bring this year’s Brazil game to a worldwide audience,” said Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice-president of media distribution. Now, YouTube’s being billed as the game’s “exclusive” global partner, but that comes with asterisks. It won’t be available in Canada and some other countries. In the U.S., it will also be on NFL+, and elsewhere, it’ll be on NFL Game Pass on DAZN for paid subscribers. Per usual, participating teams’ local markets will also carry the free over-the-air broadcast.

The NFL has played ball with a few different streamers in recent years, placing select games on the paid tiers of services like Amazon and Netflix. And earlier this year, it streamed the Super Bowl on Tubi. This will be the first regular-season game on YouTube. The Chargers’ opponent will be announced with the rest of the season’s NFL schedule on Wednesday, May 14, at 8 p.m.
